Keeping your Plants Warm and Cozy

Have you ever wondered why some homeless people cover themselves with newspapers?  Believe it or not it actually, helps to retain a small amount body heat. With that in mind, let's take a look at keeping your seeds warm.

Most seeds will not germinate in temperatures under seventy degrees. I recently planted mustard seeds in my winter garden. By covering the pot with clear plastic I have allowed the grow light to do it's job while trapping enough heat inside to germinate the seeds.

This greenhouse effect will not work if the temperatures are too cold. For example, if you have sowed your seeds directly into the garden and the temperature drops a few degrees below freezing covering your seeds would most likely save them however if the temps drop 10 degrees or more you may have a problem.
