Holiday Composting

Christmas Compost

Holiday Composting with the Frugal Gardner

For most of us, the Christmas holidays means celebrating the birth of Christ, spending quality time with friends and family and stuffing ourselves with enormous quantities of food and drink. As a gardener, I have added one more item to the list, compost. Everyone especially the cooks are so focused on putting out great food that most of them just chuck the peelings. I'm not going to preach about saving the planet at least not today but consider how many tons of waste could be saved if instead of discarding potato peels, celery stems, leftover onions, orange, apple, banana peels etc.  Even if you don't compost you may know somebody who does.

Here are some of the scraps I have composted from Christmas dinner. This is not counting coffee grinds, tea bags (without the staples) and lemon peels. I am looking forward to New Year's Eve.

Happy Holidays from The Frugal Gardener.
