Photos of What's Growing in my Summer Garden

Something old and some awesome surprises

Would you believe corn? It only enough to yield 8 ears but I consider growing corn in a flower pot an experiment. It seems to be working. If I can harvest corn this summer next spring I will plant a lot more.

These are bush beans. It only takes about 2 months to grow. I also planted some in my new raised crate garden.

Grow beans, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, runner beans and more without a garden.

This is a shot from my Back to Basics series where I take the disgarded item and use them to grow food in my garden. The bucket was used to carry water but it has a split down the center which now serves as a mean for drainage. The Tee post was given to me by my neighbor about two years ago and the wood was left over from a small trellis

Another first for the garden this year are these Scarlet runner beans. They can grow as tall as 9 feet.

Here is one of 7 pots of tomatoes. I am growing 4 types including a yellow tomato called Honey Delight (not shown) from Burpee.

We had an early spring which meant an early harvest.

What do you do with old dishpans? You grow onions in them.

This summer I am growing watermelons. I have grown them before but this is my first time growing yellow watermelons. Here is another shot from my Back to Basics series where I an old air conditioner screen as a trellis and my old compost bin. The only thing I paid for was the seeds.

Here is a shot of the vine I planted in a starter pot earlier this spring. Once I planted it outside it really took off.

It has been ridiculously hot this spring. I had to break out the shade cloth early. The beans are in the back but I moved 4 of my tomato plants inside.

Here is a shot of a few of the bush beans that I grew in my raised crate garden. The materials for this garden were salvaged. My total cost was $5.00 If you would like to see my step by step instruction video click the link below.

Butternut Squash. I can't take credit for this one. My neighbor gave me three starters. At the moment they are not doing as well as I would like. I need bigger, much bigger pots.
